Who Are We?
Russet House Farm is a community
of three households who are concerned with living in ways that cultivate
a sustainable relationship with the creation. Rooted in an ecologically
sensitive and culturally attuned Christian faith, we are committed to organic
methods of agriculture, preserving rare breeds, renewable energy, local
economic development, sustainable forestry, species diversity and creating
a place of hospitality, education and celebration.
The members of our collective are:
Alan and Diane, together with their children, live
ten minutes from the farm in Fenelon Falls where Al works as a management consultant
when he is not fixing the tractor or snow blower. Diane throws her energy in growing and preserving
produce from the farm's large vegetable garden.
Marianne Karsh lives in Guelph and works at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre
as an ecology and spirituality educator. A professional forester, Marianne
also runs Arborvitae, an educational ministry to all ages that helps people
to connect spirituality and creation.
Brian Walsh and Sylvia Keesmaat, together with their two girls, live
at the farm year round. Brian and Sylvia have a background in and a continuing
ministry in the area of theology and biblical studies, and have taught
in environmental studies programs. They combine a life of home schooling,
gardening and farm chores with a career of writing, teaching and campus
ministry.
