The Gardens
The gardens at Russet
House Farm are hand-tended using organic gardening practices. The wide
variety of flower, herb and vegetable diversity enables plants to interact
in mutually beneficial ways. This diversity also encourages beneficial
insects so that insect pests are confronted with natural predators.
In addition, at various points in the gardening season, chickens and
ducks are allowed to graze in the garden. Most of the produce from the
garden feeds the farm community and volunteers, with excess being sold or
given away to homeless shelters. We attempt to preserve and store as much
produce as we can for winter consumption.
The gardens are tended with the
assistance of one or two summer interns. Volunteers often assist in the
garden on Work Days.
